Herman de Vries
Clinical psychologist, cognitive behavioral therapist, supervisor
I am a clinical psychologist, cognitive behavioural therapist and certified supervisor from the Netherlands that resides in Paris. I have a degree in clinical psychology from the University of Paris-Nanterre and have worked as an independent clinical psychologist since 1976. I am a member of the Dutch Association for Cognitive Behavior Therapy since 1979 and of the French Association of Behavioral and Cognitive Therapy (AFTCC) since 1980. I have a long experience of doing training and supervision for the AFTCC. In 2024 I was elected member of their “Council of the Wise”.
I maintained a private practice in Paris Montmartre between 1986 and 2023. From 2007 till 2023 my practice served as a place of internship for younger colleagues starting to work as cognitive behavioural therapists, under my supervision. From 1987 on, I have done training for various CBT programs in France (CES Univ Paris-XI , DU Univ Paris-V et Paris-X, AFTCC). I have thus trained and supervised several generations of cognitive behavioural therapists in France.
My main clinical interests and expertise within CBT are functional analysis, clinical case formulation, panic disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder. I have a longstanding experience of doing CBT training and supervision in Algeria since 2009 at the psychiatric hospital of Cheraga. In 2012 I was invited to conceive and set-up a CBT training program for psychologists in Algeria, in close collaboration with Algerian colleagues. This program is still running in Algiers, making it an important long-standing CBT training program in Algeria.
